Investments made, into student summer jobs

When it comes to Students Jobs in Greater Sudbury, Government of Canada says they’ve done what they can, investing a total of $704,000 to create 279 summer employment opportunities. All done through the Canada Summer Jobs program, the initiative is designed to focus on boosting the local economy through achieving tangible results for both students and their communities.


Timmins Woman charged following assault

A Timmins Woman is facing 9 charges, following an assault in a residents. Police said the female suspect had allegedly entered a residence, causing damage to the residence, and physically assaulting her former partner and another individual in the residence. A 22-year-old Timmins woman faces was arrested and charged accordingly.


ONTC going green?

Ontario Northland is going green, or at least that’s the hope after launching a unique green energy technology bus. The ONR say’s they have a number of partners including Union Gas, and Change Energy to conduct a feasibility study on one of its motor coaches, which would run on compressed natural gas.


Woman accidentally shoots hunting partner

A Webbwood woman has been slapped with a $2000 fined and temporarily ban from hunting, after accidentally shooting her hunting partner. This is after a woman was hunting grouse north of Cartier with a hunting partner. The duo was travelling in a side-by-side ATV, when the woman noticed a grouse by the side of the road. Attempting to make a quick exit, she accidentally shot her partner in the leg.


New airline coming to Sudbury?

Dash 8 airlines could soon be making stops between Sudbury and Thunder Bay. A representative from Wasaya Airways says that regional air carrier, headquartered in Thunderbay says they are looking to expand service into northeastern Ontario. It could all begin as early as August 14th.


25-year-old hacker busted following LU hack

A 25-year-old Sudbury man has had the plug pulled after being charged for hacking into Laurentian University’s computer network. It happened earlier this year. Katelyn Dunn from Sudbury Police says that he’s facing a number of charges.

In an issued statement, police said after a lengthy investigation a warrant was executed at a Sudbury home where computers and data storage devices were seized.


Big rig checks, turn over 30 infractions

Greater Sudbury Police, the OPP and the MTO has partnered up this week, launching a commercial motor vehicle enforcement blitz. 30 tickets were issued for infractions such as failing to display annual inspection sticker, insecure load, overweight. Two vehicles being taken out of service due to a variety of violations.
