Residents set to stand behind “Whinnying in Life”

Saddle up your horses, and grab your grocery bags. This week Sudbury residents have band together, is support of those effected by a fire in Hanmer destroyed a barn and hay used by Whinnying in Life. This week a boot drive will aim to close the gap for those effected.    On August 4th, the team will be at Neil’s Independent in Hanmer from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., holding a Fill the Boot drive. All proceeds will go to the charity to help cover the cost of repairs.


Driver charged after trailer breaks free

Timmins Police say they’ve charged a 59-year-old man a following a collision that occurred Tuesday morning on Kamiskotia Road. It all happened when a pickup truck, somehow kicked off the trailer it was towing. The trailer then entered the lane of oncoming traffic and was hit by a transport truck. The road was closed for approximately two hours to allow for cleanup of the debris as a result of the collision.


Sleep tight… and don’t let the bedbugs bite!

Greater Sudbury has made the list when it comes to… bedbugs. A pest control company operating nationally says they’ve released its annual Top Ten list this week, in regard to locations. Toronto took the top spot with Winnipeg and Vancouver rounding out the top three. Greater Sudbury was ranked eighth.


Dome mine will wrap up operations in December

Porcupine Gold Mines announced today that mining operations will permanently cease at the Dome underground mine. According to the mine, the decision comes after it was determined that the mine, after 107 years, is running out of gold.  The closure is expected for December 31st, but may close sooner if production cannot last until the end of the year.


Investigation continues after home-made firework is found

Greater Sudbury Police say they’re hoping someone can give them more information after a package thought to be an explosive. It was found Byng Tot Lot… in a play ground sandbox near Byng and Lorne Streets this week.  The investigation continues, but Police say it looks to be a home-made fire work.
