Road Closure in Timmins

A note for Timmins Drivers heading out this morning. Pine Street South at Algonquin Boulevard is closed while city maintenance crews replace a south west traffic light pole. The city says it was damaged earlier this year. The work is expected to last about four hours.


Glen Canada Corp. fined after Miner’s death

Glencore Canada Corporation has been fined $200,000 for the death of a Sudbury man almost two years ago. 54-year old Richard Pigeau, was killed at Nickel Rim South Mine in a vehicle accident on Oct. 20th in 2015 at Glencore’s base metal mine near Sudbury, a producer nickel and copper ore.


Three charged after weapon used in break-in found

North Bay Police say the investigation is ongoing of three people and their Hammond street residence, after they were caught at a traffic stop, allegedly in possession of a restricted firearm, used in a break and enter. Constable Rick Debeau says that a search warrant showed it only started there.

Three people, all between the ages of 26 and 58 are facing charges.


Non-emergency transfer duties changing hands

The duty of non-emergency transfers from out of town, will soon be changing hands in the city of Timmins. The service originally provided by ambulance services will cease as of the end of September. This is the final stage of a new service deployment plan from the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board. The Timmins and District Hospital says it will be hiring a service from within the private sector.


Distracted driving topping accidents… again

Inattentive driving are once again topping collisions this year, shooting past speeding and alcohol or drug-related collisions… combined. That’s according to the OPP who says that distraction this year has been the primary cause in 6,360 road collisions, while speed was the primary cause in 4,700 accidents leaving just over 1,100 to drivers who consumed alcohol or drugs. A total of 47 people have died this year because of an inattentive driver, up from 39 such deaths this time last year, and Police are pleading with drivers to change bad habits.


NDP and PC’s calling on Liberals to call “State of Emergency”

NDP health critic and Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas says the NDP is on the same page as the Ontario PC’s…. when it comes to the the Opiod Crisis. KFM news spoke to the MPP who says it’s time to call a state of emergency.

Gélinas says the New Democrats have over 700 doctors, nurses and frontline harm reduction workers calling on Premier Wynne to take action.


Former Fire Chief facing charges

Former Sault Saint Marie Chief, 58-year-old Michael Figliola, will be in court next month to answer to charges that include fraud and breach of trust. While the details have not been given, this is after a 7 month investigation. He will be in court in September.
