Funding incoming for Student Placement?

Those at Northern Post Secondary schools remain optimistic, but cautious at the announcement this week that Ottawa is promising 73-million-dollars to help students find placements as they head back to school. What would normally be good news for those at Nippising, Canadore, Laurentian, Cambrian and Northern College, comes with a catch… there is no word yet, as to who will be eligible.


Angus in Timmins, then off to Vancouver

NDP MP Charlie Angus says he’s gaining steam as the election for Tom Mulcair’s replacement gets closer. The NDP say they’ve tripled membership numbers during the race going from 41,000 in March to over 124,000 in August. Angus says he’s going to be in Timmins for a Labour Day Rally before travelling out west for the final debate in Vancouver on September 10th.


Alleged thief caught with the goods?

An alleged Sudbury thief is in custody after a string of incidents at a number of Sudbury Locations. City police say they took the 31-year-old man into custody caught driving a stolen vehicle he’d taken from a home he had broken into. The believe this is also the man responsible for the break-ins for at eight local businesses.


New partnership stuck between Student union and MFRC

The Nipissing University Student Union says this week, they’ve stuck up a new partnership with the Military Family Resource Centre. The goal is to give more assistance to military families and former personnel when students are at the school. Bob Pipe is with the school and says the credit goes to the students.

Sponsorship available for those in need

Those in need in Timmins, in more ways than one… will now have a leg up to getting help. A $3,000 donation has been handed to the Timmins Family Counselling Centre slated to go toward supporting those who cannot afford counselling, but do not meet the criteria for obtaining government funding. The donation comes by way of the Kia of Timmins’ Drive Change event.
