STOP for the school bus

Police from across the North say they will be out in full force this morning, once again, when it comes to school bus safety. Constable Ken Ayers is a traffic officer in North Bay and says for those who run the lights of a school bus, they will pay hefty fines.

Police are imploring the public to use wise judgement while behind the wheel.


Foul play not suspected in fire

Foul play is not suspected when it comes to a Mattawa fire that claimed the lives of two residence. That’s according the OPP… their Forensic Investigation Services, the North Bay Crime Unit and the Office of the Fire Marshal. A 74-year-old male and a 47-year-old female have both been identified.


Medical assistance in dying on the rise?

Medical assistance in dying, or MAID could soon begin to pick up in Northern Ontario. While has been legal since June 2016, there is no exact number of doctors who provide it, the medical community says that free training will being later this month, for doctors and their staff who are interested. Last year, 20 people in Northeastern Ontario chose medically-assisted death.


Early morning collision on HWY 17

Reports say that an early morning collision has taken place. It apparently involved two vehicles just after 1:30am. Highway 17 West in Verner has been effected. A detour is ins place and there is no word yet as to injuries or charges.


Special meeting of Timmins Council today

A special meeting of Timmins city council has been called for today. The meeting, will be tackling a number of issues including the prospect of a Stars & Thunder committee. The idea would be that a committee would encourage transparency for the festival moving forward. The meeting gets going at 12-noon.


STOP for the crossing guard

Just over 13,200 full-time students from the Espanola and Manitoulin Island… and Sudbury, head back to class today as school resumes for the Rainbow district school board. Katelyn Dunn is with Sudbury Police and says drivers must stop for crossing guards…

Across the school board, just over 1,500 of children heading out with back packs on for the kindergarteners while 950 students are heading to grade 9.


West Ferris arena committee struck

A special committee of council will consult with the public moving forward, on a proposed replacement of West Ferris arena. This will include aspects like a geo-technical study on potential sites for the new rink. Council approved the move last night at city council, along with up $60,000 in spending for the preliminary work.


Could buses be running late

The Sudbury Student Services Consortium says that a small number of bus routes, despite the first day of school, do not have permanent drivers. As such a number of companies operating buses say, a few school buses will be arriving late and leaving late from school. The last reports say the buses in New Sudbury and South End, could be running 45 minutes later than scheduled.
