Missing – 44-year-old Christopher Rivers

Timmins Police say they’re looking for a missing man. 44-year-old Christopher RIVERS, of Timmins was last seen in Timmins on August 29th. He is described as being a Caucasian male, approximately 5’10” tall, approximately 190 lbs., with wavy light brown hair blue eyes. He is described as having unshaven facial hair. Rivers is believed to be driving a blue Hyundai Santa Fe, bearing Ontario license plate BZXC584. Anyone with information, should contact Timmins Police.


Synergy Centre plans moving forward

Sudbury city staff is moving on a report, when it comes to the cities’ Synergy Centre. Moreover, they are looking at bypassing the public tender process in favour of awarding a contract, to the tune of $150,000 for a business plan, operational model, conceptual and financial plan for the centre with a local contractor.  Council has asked for the projects to be expedited, and will be looking for an update in November.


Breaking ground in the fight against violence

Wikwemikong First Nation on Manitoulin Island have put shovels in the ground this week, breaking ground… all to further break ground on violence in the community. The construction of a new shelter for victims of violence has begun. The $2.3-million shelter will service victims of violence who require immediate safety and protection.


Major Drugs, Weapons Bust in Sudbury

$187K in drugs and weapons has been seized by Sudbury Police following a two month operation. Katelyn Dunn is the Coorperate Communications Coordinator with Sudbury Police and says it was a team effort.

Five individuals, two of which are from Sudbury are facing a number of charges.


Male arrested following assault

An Espanola man is in custody following a feud with a family member. City cops were called to attend a residence on Bass Lake Road where the male had allegedly assaulted his brother by throwing rocks and attempting to strike him with a tree branch. The 57-year-old Espanola man arrested will be in court in October.


One man caught speeding on the first day of school

One motorist was dinged for seeping, but all in all… there have been no school bus related infractions during the Back to School Traffic Enforcement Campaign. The driver was ticketed for speeding in the 1200 block of Lakeshore Drive. The driver was reportedly going 70km\h in a posted 50km\h zone. He’s on the hook for $95 fine and three demerit points.


Bi-election case begins today

Gerry Lougheed Jr. and Pat Sorbara are scheduled to be in court today facing charges under the Election Act. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne has agreed to testify at the trial of two prominent Liberals. She will be in court  on September 16th.


2.6 million ordered in payouts following guilty plea

Detour Gold in Cochrane has been ordered to pay more than $2.6 million in fines and restitution. This is after pleading guilty to criminal negligence causing death, in an incident in which an unprotected 52-year-old millwright worker at the Cochrane mill came in contact with liquid cyanide in June 2015.


Police respond to break and enter, alarm call

North Bay Police have responded to a number of break-ins within the city. Constable Key Ayers says the first incident happened when a crow bar to used…

Ayers says cash in a cash box was taken.  Secondary to that Police also responded to an alarm at the fox and fiddle.

Be bear wise, as cooler weather approaches

Residence in North Bay are reminded of the importance of being bear wise after a number of recent sightings. The North Bay Mattawa Conservation authority says they’ve had reports of a bear at the Laurentian Escarpment Conservation Area and another on Kate Pace Trail near the Cranberry Trail. More sightings are expect as the early fall triggers bears to increase their food consumption in preparation for hibernation.
