A reminder is given to drivers – slow down.

Heading back to school for the second full week, Police are reminding the public to slow down. One North Bay driver was dinged just before the weekend with going 70km in a 50km/hour zone. Greater Sudbury Police Service however, handed out 36 speeding tickets to drivers in school zones last week during the police department’s back to school safety campaign.


Committee meets this week to talk Ferris arena

A special committee from North Bay city council say they’re heading up public consultations for the replacement of West Ferris arena this week. The group, which consists of representatives from all of the committees of council, is set to meet Wednesday night. Council have given the green light to $60,000 worth of spending for a geo-technical work at tow potential sites.


Vehicle of Christopher Rivers, found

Timmins Police say that they continue their search for a missing Timmins man. 44 year old Christopher Rivers. However police say that the vehicle that Rivers was believed to be driving was located abandoned. The vehicle, a Hyundai Santa Fe, was located in an area off Murphy Road, Northeast of Timmins.
Christopher Rivers was reported missing on August 28, 2017. He is described as being a Caucasian male, approximately 5’10” tall, approximately 190 lbs., with wavy light brown hair blue eyes. He is described as having unshaven facial hair.


Man dies in Skydiving accident

A 27-year-old Sudbury man has lost his life, following a parachutist jump in Gatineau, Quebec. Reports say that the accident happened Saturday. The experienced skydiver, whose name has not been released, appeared to have technical issues before crashing into the backyard of an area residence, a few kilometres north of the Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport.


Bus and Bicycle collide

The intersection of Wyld and McIntyre in North Bay was shut down for over 2 hours Friday, after a North Bay Transit bus and cyclists collided in and around the intersection itself. The collision was so involved that reports say everyone on the bus was forced to exit. The cyclist was taken to the North Bay Regional Health Centre.


Warning given regarding door to door sales people

The Timmins Police Service say they’ve received several inquiries regarding door-to-door sales occurring in various areas of the city. Kate Catin is with city Police and says the salespeople are claiming to be with the city.

The salespersons are requesting information about homeowners’ water tanks or water filtration systems.


No new digs for students this fall

The Rainbow District School Board despite announcing eight public school closures board wide, it won’t be considering any new student buildings this year. Instead, the board says that students will be consolidated, and funding will be focused on revitalization projects.


Lock it or lose it – North Bay Police

North Bay Police are reminding the public to lock-it-or-loose-it. That’s following a string of vehicle break-ins. Items stolen include cash and change, debit cards, credit cards, and wallets. A full list of targeted streets is below.

Senior charged with fraud in “drug patch” use

A 65-year-old Smooth Rock Falls woman is facing multiple charges in regard to fraudulent fentanyl patch use. Police say an investigation revealed it all started with a woman who submitted counterfeit fentanyl patches at a local pharmacy. The woman is facing 10 charges including fraud under five thousand dollars and adult use, deals and acts on forged documents.
