Diver without key emergency services deployment device

Some tough questions are faced this week, following the death of a Sudbury Skydiver. Further investigation says that the skydiver collided with another jumper shortly after launching himself from the plane, causing him to lose consciousness. What’s more is that his emergency services deployment device was out being serviced. He was 27-years old.


Bike placed in Sudbury, raising awareness

A different kind of monument has been erected in Sudbury. A white bicycle has been set up on permanent mounted display, was near the site on Paris Street, where dentist Bob D’Aloisio was struck and killed while pedaling home from downtown on Paris Street. The bike is both to commemorate someone who has died in a cycling accident and remind those passing by to respect the space of cyclists, using the roadway.


Porter has left the runway… in North Bay

What started out with much fanfare, left the runway yesterday… and out of the foreseeable future for North Bay. Porter Airlines has concluded its service in North Bay after the peak of the summer season. The company, arrived as a new affordable airline in 2015.


Timmins Chamber seeks input

Preparations for the Timmins 2018 municipal budget is underway at the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, and the chamber is looking for input. Province issues such as infrastructure have already come up. The chamber will present the business priorities to council, September 20th .


Tipping fees waved in Sudbury

While many finish their summer cleaning, the City of Greater Sudbury is reminding residents that residential tipping fees will soon be waived at all Greater Sudbury landfill and waste diversion sites. The break from fees will be from Sept. 25- 30.


Bike accident under investigation

North Bay Police say they’re still investigating a collision involving a city bus and a cyclist just before the weekend. They say a city bus was on Wyld Street making a left turn onto McIntyre Street East. It is alleged that cyclist passed several cars while peddling along the center line when he was struck the driver’s side of the bus behind while it was making the left turn. The cyclist was taken to Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.


Search for Timmins man suspended

The search for a Timmins man has been suspended pending further investigation. 44-year old Christopher Rivers was last seen on August 28th. On September 6th, the car Rivers was believed to be driving was located abandoned, off Murphy Road in the Northeast end of the city.


Timmins Fall draws record crowds

Great weather inside and friendly fanfare inside paved the way this past weekend for the Timmins Fall fair. With an estimated 5,500 people attending the two-day event at the Mount Joy Arena, numbers were at the highest in recent memory. The community say this was a celebration of our food producers, their products and the harvest.
