Early morning fire at a detached shed

It was all lights and sirens to a fire in Greater Sudbury at around 4:30am this morning. A storage shed and two homes were damaged. A total of 13 firefighters from two stations attended the fire on Downing Street. A press release issued by Greater Sudbury Fire Services said 10 people had to be evacuated. No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $35,000.


Stand-off ends without incident

A Sudbury man was taken into custody yesterday, following a five hour stand off with Police. It happened at a Wilma street apartment. The source of the issue? A family dispute. It all came to an end just after 2:30pm when the lone male involved at that time, climbed out through a window, and surrendered to Police.


Cartwheels get the Ax

Keep your feet on the ground. M.T. Davidson Public School in Callander, says they’re banning cartwheels. Even through there have been no issues to date, the school says that the activity can cause concussions, and neck and wrist injuries.


A “permanent leader” is needed – Angus

NDP leadership candidate Charlie Angus says it is critical for his party to have a permanent leader in the House of Commons. But, it will all come down to Party members to either agree or disagree with him this fall. NDP members can begin online voting today, with the first ballot results to be revealed on Oct. 1.


Reminder – safety first with school buses

The two-week back to school police campaign is over, but that by no means safety is off the table. Constable Ken Ayers says that 16 drivers were charged with speeding in school zones in the past week, and as for stopping for the school bus…

North Bay Police also received two complaints of motorists failing to stop for a school bus.


Fatality in highway accident

The two-vehicle collision has claimed the life of a Capreol man. That’s according o the OPP with new information on the accident in Parry Sound. A 61-year-old Nehemiah Richards, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Richards was northbound when the vehicle he was driving collided with a southbound vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.


The wheels on the bus…  go bang.

It was an eventful ride a school bus driver in North Bay this morning. Evidently a school bus blew a tire while travelling along Trout Lake Road. Thankfully there were no students on the bus, and the driver was not injured. Police were called to the scene. There was no indication of a significant snag to traffic.


Lights out in Coniston.

Residents across Coniston were left in the dark momentarily this morning, due to a power outage. KFM spoke to Hydro one who said that they had an issue that threatened their ground protection, thus triggering someone to pull the plug. Power has been restored.
