Death of male under investigation

Greater Sudbury Police say they’re investigating the death of a 56-year-old man. They say it took place in the third avenue area of Levack. The deceased individual was discovered yesterday morning. Anyone with information is asked to phone Greater Sudbury Police.


No Apology coming

No Apology is coming to Nippising MPP Vic Fedeli, Sault Ste. Mare MPP Ross Romano or anyone else…. after Liberal MPP Lou Rinaldi says his comments regarding the North were taken out of context. This is all over an exchange where Rinaldi said that Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli should sit down because he was “in no man’s land”. Rinaldi has since told the press, he will not apologize.


Naming rights has been given the go-ahead

Sault Ste. Marie City council has given the go-ahead to move forward with a naming rights process for Essar Centre. The recommendation regarding the premier sports and entertainment facility passed Monday with no discussion by city council. The Essar Steel naming rights contract expires in July 2018 and represents a $1.5 million sponsorship.


CAO wants public input

A new plan to be put forward by Timmins chief administrator David Landers, calling for public input and community planning for the Stars and Thunder festival, 2018. Timmins council has already approved a second eight-day festival that will run from June 24, 2018 through to July 1, 2018 with a budget of $5.75-million.


Elderly impaired driver arrested by Police

An elderly driver is out of Espanola, has been pulled off the road, charged for impaired driving. This is after blowing three times over the limit in Espanola following a traffic stop. A 71-year-old man was charged and will appear in Espanola court on Oct. 23.


Sudbury City Council meets tonight

Greater Sudbury Council will meet tonight at Tom Davies Square. Included in the agenda items is a report on the Northern Water Sports Centre. A recommendation is being made that the City designate the centre as a Municipal Capital Facility upon the execution of a lease agreement between The Northern Sports Centre and the City.


Caught in jail, for bringing in drugs

North Bay police say a woman was charged after allegedly bringing an inmate, drugs. Authorities says two grams of marijuana was sown into a pair of jeans. Jail employees noticed it and turned it over to the North Bay police. The 39 will be in court in October.


Sault race-car drivers get the “green light”

Drivers, start your engines, the Remote-Control Car Club Facility in Sault Ste. Marie is getting a permanent home, at least for now. After a lengthy debate Monday, council voted in favour of allowing the club to lease the Wilcox Park tennis courts. The agreement has a life-span of two years. The group takes possession next spring.


New tool to fight against eCrime

Dealing with eCrime is about to get easier. The Timmins Police says a new hard drive technology, that costs about $30,000 is being used to access multiple devices for evidence. City cops will be using the device mainly for cell phones and tablets to download files such as text messages, photos or social media messages.


Row home decision, still coming

A decision is still coming regarding a controversial row home development in the Auger Avenue area in New Sudbury. After a lengthy discussion on Monday, the planning committee voted to continue the public hearing later. The company involved would like to build 40 row homes on lands currently zoned for institutional purposes.


Temperatures to cool in coming days

With the end of the heat warning in Sudbury, North Bay and Sault Ste. Mare, warmer temps should begin to break, starting tonight. While today in the Nickle city, sunny skies could produce a humidex of up to 36… a low of 16 is expected for this evening.


52% for grade 9 Catholic students in Nipissing-Parry Sound

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is piping in when it comes to Grade 9 high school students when it comes to EQAO testing. They say applied math students managed a 52 percent score compared to the 44 percent average.


Knife wielding teen arrested for assault

Sault Ste. Marie Police say they’ve hauled in a 14-year-old male in relation to an assault. It is alleged that it all began when the accused engaged in a verbal argument with a second young person known to him. The accused took out a knife and then began to chase the victim. The victim was able to flee the area and contacted police.


Lamarche voted in as VP

A well known Timmins representative has taken the seat of Vice President for Attractions Ontario. Manager of Tourism Guy Lamarche has elected by the board at its meeting in the city. Some of the bigger players on the board include representatives from the CN Tower, National Gallery of Canada and the Toronto Zoo.
