Change your clocks, change your batteries

This weekend, the clocks change…. Falling back one hour in a number of Provinces Nation Wide. And as such, residents are reminded to change the batteries in smoke detectors. Randy Vesna is Captain of Fire Prevention in North Bay and says fresh batteries, or not… take the time, and switch them out.

The National Fire Protection Association reports that 71% of smoke alarms which failed to operate had missing, disconnected or dead batteries.

Cambrian College Up 7 Spots

Top marks are coming in for Cambrian College in Greater Sudbury. The school, according to the Fraser Institute, has ranked 37th out of the top 50 research colleges in Canada, up from 44th last year. In years previous, Cambrian has raked third in Canada among mid-sized colleges for engaging student researchers in innovative research and development projects. It is the only Northern Ontario School on the list.
 

Male charged in assault

The North Bay OPP have charged one male, following an assault. They said a call, sparked be someone screaming in an apartment came in East Ferris Township. The OPP investigation revealed that a physical altercation had taken place between a male and his girlfriend. As a result, OPP has charged the man with assault.
 

Students give back to those in need

Grade four and five students in Timmins have given back in their community. This is after they collected hygiene and food items to create comfort kits for the local H.O.P.E. community outreach. Students from Pinecrest Public School reportedly put together 60 kits that include basic necessities like soap, and shampoo… all to donate to the homeless.
 

Crash remains under investigation

Sault Ste. Marie Police say an investigation into a crash is ongoing. Airbags exploded when a red Chevrolet Colorado pickup and a purple Ford Edge SEL SUV collided on Shannon Road across from Snowdon Park last night. Reports say pickup truck ran into the back of the SUV, which was parked at the time, said the police officers. There is no word on injures or charges.
 

Trailer Park Residents, forced to move

Residents of River Valley Park near Sault Ste. Maire will now find another place to life. This is after Algoma Public Health’s latest reports say the trailer park’s owners have repeatedly failed to comply with orders to replace the park’s faulty sewage system. Those living on site, have until early spring 2018 to make new living arrangements.
