Faculty back in class today, students tomorrow

College faculty in Ontario head back to their schools today, after the longest strike of its kind in Ontario’s history. It all ended in a single moment with the passing of back-to-work legislation. Colleges says they’re extending their semesters, so students don’t lose their terms, and the Province has ordered a 5-million-dollar fund to help students for costs associated with time lost, but there are no details yet as to how it will work.
 

Delays for Sudbury Drivers

A note to Sudbury drivers, heading out this morning. Access to Maley Drive from Barrydowne Road to Richelieu Court remains closed following a culvert, making the roads impassable for commuters. A detour is in place, but delays are expected.
 

Man sought following attempted home invasion

Sudbury Police continue their search for a man who allegedly broke into a home in Chelmsford. It happened just before the weekend. The man dressed in black knocked on the door of the Errinton Ave home and when the home owner opened the door, the man tried to force his way in. The woman then slammed the door on the man’s arm and he fled.
 

Missing – Marcel Sutherland, 50  (UPDATE – LOCATED)

North Bay Police is saying they’re looking for a missing man. Marcel Sutherland is an Indigenous man, 50 years old, 5’10, 160-170 lbs, last seen wearing camouflage pants, a grey or black hoody and blue coat. He has a noticeable limp and occasionally uses a wheelchair. He was last seen in the area of Chippewa Creek by Fisher and Third Ave.
 

Gun scare at Christmas Parade

A misunderstanding nearly shut down the Christmas Parade over the weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. City Police received a call of man entering a nearby downtown apartment building with a rifle case. It was revealed there was no threat, and the man has returned 15-minutes earlier, from hunting.
 

2018 Budget meetings start up in Timmins

2018 Budget meetings are slated to take to the microphone this week in Timmins. Council will see presentations about water and wastewater, as well as funding for the airport, and parking before starting budget talks. The meeting gets underway tonight at 6:00pm
