More freezing rain in the north

More Freezing could hit much of the North-East today. What began last night in some parts is expected to start up in others this afternoon. North Bay – West Nipissing, Greater Sudbury and vicinity, and the Timmins Region could all see a mix of wintry precipitation.
 

New name, new plan

The health unit in Sudbury says it’s going to be the same location, and provide the same service… it will just have a new name.  On Thursday, the health unit says the board approved the change for the unit to now be known as Public Health Sudbury & Districts.  The health unit also released its five-year strategic plan.
 

Crash on Elm Street

Greater Sudbury Police have not released any further details on a single-vehicle collision on Elm Street. It did happen yesterday afternoon…. they say injuries are unknown, and they will provide more as information is available.
 

NNDSB moving on program shifts

The Near North Districted school board in the city of North Bay, is preparing for a move, some say will radically change the face of secondary school education in North Bay. Trustees are set decide as early as this week, what programs will go where as of the fall. Last September, the board decided to close Widdifield Secondary school, while keeping Chippewa and West Ferris operating.
 

Mayor not in favour of obtaining OPP costing

A North Bay City Councillor has been given two weeks to find a seconder to a motion. Councillor Mark King gave his council colleagues official notice this week that he intends to seek council support for an Ontario Provincial Police costing, for the city of North Bay. KFM NEWS spoke to Mayor Al MacDonald who says he’s gone on record to say he’s not in favour of the idea.

KFM has not, yet, obtained a comment from Mr. King
 

Cat food, please

While not everyone enjoys the presence of a feline in their lives, those who do in the Greater Sudbury area are being encouraged to lend a hand and give generously. Local animal shelters say they’re looking for cat food donations, even if the bag is open! They said through social media this week that their cats aren’t picky eaters, and for more information a link can be found by going to the Small Things CATS FACEBOOK page.
