Many have their say on New Arena/Event Centre

There was plenty of concern from Greater Sudbury Residence at a city hall meeting. A planning committee heard from the public, on plans for the new arena events centre and the casino on the Kingsway. One big concern is size – the lot is expected to be 47 acres. They say most of that would be would be parking lot, that would in turn need as much as 500 pounds of salt in freezing conditions. Most of that, residents say, would wind up in Ramsey Lake.
 

Collision effects multiple lanes

The winter conditions did catch up with one driver yesterday in Greater Sudbury. Greater Sudbury Police, Fire and EMS are en route to a collision near the intersection of Elm Street and Elgin Street. The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
 

No classes at Nipissing/Canadore

Classes at Nipissing University and Canadore College have been cancelled today, due to weather conditions. Buildings are also closed.
 

Tuck crashes into building in Mattawa

OPP say it’s “unbelievable” that no one was killed after a tractor-trailer slammed into a multi-unit apartment complex in Mattawa Monday night. The OPP investigation is ongoing as to what caused the crash.
 

More child care spaces coming to the north

More child care spaces are coming to the North. 49 child care spaces are coming to St. Joseph School in South Porcupine, which is part of the Northeastern Catholic District School Board (NCDSB). The board has received $2.2-million for the expansion of childcare services, from the Province of Ontario.
 

Front line workers, taking to the picket lines?

Paramedics on the Front Lines in Sault Ste. Marie could soon be on the picket lines. This is if no deal between the city and its paramedics is ironed out by the by week’s end. The two sides met with a conciliator Jan. 12 and more meetings are slated for later this week.
