Sudbury exceeds snow removal, by 2 million

It’s that of year when many start looking forward to Spring. The city of Sudbury says they’re looking back to the costs of Winter. This is after it was reveled this week that winter road operations cost the city almost $19 million last year, a total that exceeded the city’s budget by approximately $1.9 million. While Sudbury was hit with higher than average snow falls in November and December, the biggest hit came through sanding, salting, and plowing.
 

West Nippising Police investing motor vehicle theft, fire

West Nipissing police are investigating a motor vehicle theft which took place Wednesday in Verner. Reports say that a Dodge Stratus was stolen from her driveway sometime overnight, only to be found later that morning on Stewart Road… with fire damage. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity along Stewart is asked to contact police.
 

Snow mobile crash sends one to hospital

Meanwhile a Cochrane area man is lucky to be in one piece after a snow mobile accident. This is after the driver, a 53-year-old reportedly drove off the trail into a ravine. The driver sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
 

Over 10,000 needles found one 1 month

It’s an unsettling report, as the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth published numbers when it comes to needles. Nearly 12,900 used needles were picked up in November of last year alone, the first month of the initiative. The us far the group has been supported by $72,600 in municipal funding. The number of needles collected dropped to 3,493 in December, and 718 in January of this year.
 

Break-in investigated at Cashe Bay Road Apartment

West Nipissing police are investigating a recent break-in at a Cache Bay Road apartment. The tenant reported that the culprit entered the apartment via a second-floor window and, once inside, ransacked the apartment. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police.
 

Sault Ste. Marie fire at Triple M Metal yard

It was all lights and sirens to Sault Ste. Marie Fire yesterday at around 9:00pm. Services trucks responded to a fire at Triple M Metal on Yates Avenue. Reports say that a stand-alone pile of shredded vehicles caught fire in the back of the facility. A company loader was used to spread out the material and the fire was doused with water.
