400k headed to Sudbury Festivals

Spring is now less than a week away, and Sudbury’s festival season… has received a boost from the Ontario government. Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault was the one to announce this week that more than $400,000 is being shared by 15 local festivals including the Northern Lights Festival Boreal, and this year’s 60th Christmas Parade.
 

Fire at North Bay Restaurant

There were no injuries at a fire that broke out at a North Bay Restaurant. North Bay firefighters respond to a fire at the Kabuki House restaurant in the 300-block of shortly before 1:30 this morning. There is no word yet as to what caused the blaze, nor total damage done.
 

Search continues for E.I.T?

The search continues for a new Timmins City engineer. The city’s human resources department says they’ve now put out a call for a civil engineering school grad with sites set on become an Engineer-in-Training (EIT). The posting comes almost a year since the former city engineering director Luc Duval tendered his resignation.
 

More Beds coming to Finnish Nursing Home

More long-term care is coming to Sault Ste. Marie. This week, the Province announced the opening four new long-term care beds at Mauno Kaihla Koti to help seniors access the care they need, closer to home. These new beds are part of Ontario’s commitment to create 5,000 long-term care beds over the next four years.
 

We’re in Trouble – Giroux

It was a reality check that many knew was coming yesterday in Greater Sudbury… when it came to Big Picture at Health Sciences North. Digging into debt since the fiscal year of 2013-2014, New CEO Dominic Giroux indicated told Senior Staff “We’re in Trouble”. Giroux went on to explain that tough measures can be expected to address a possible $10 million dollar deficit. An earlier round of layoffs this year trimmed more than $800,000 from its budget with senior management layoffs.
 

Toy Thieves Sought

Cochrane Crime stoppers is looking to track down toy thieves… thieves who allegedly stole toys that would have been given to under-privileged children. The theft occurred at a business property on Third Avenue. Included in the missing toys is approximately 40 Barbie play kitchens, four purple and black tote bags on wheels and Four Daymak Speed 1 electric scooters.
 

Extra: Public Opinion sought in Cochrane

The Board of the Health for the Porcupine Health Unit is looking for input when it comes to an upcoming strategic plan. In a survey entitled ‘Your Voice Matters’ 10-question as being asked regarding public health issues that matter the most to residents.
