Man in hospital, following “targeted attack”

A 20-year-old man was rushed to hospital over the weekend, in what Sudbury Police call… a targeted attack. He was allegedly attacked with an edged weapon at a residence at Bruce Street in early morning hours of Sunday. He is in stable condition.
 

Snow depth up in North Bay

With less than a week to go, until Spring… Winter in North seems to be hold tight in some places. In North Bay the recent snowfall earlier in the week has forced up the average snow depth roughly about 8cm and increased water content about 11mm. This is all according to the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority. Measuring is all done as part of the flood forecasting program.
 

Connecting Link getting another boost

The Connecting link in Timmins is getting another boost. $3 million thanks to the Ministry of Transportation. The MTO says that work is slated to be done this summer, on a section between the Bruce Y eastbound towards Legion Drive.
 

Splash Pad expected to be approved

The city of Sault Ste. Marie is expected to greenlight the city’s first splash pad this week. An evaluation committee, has reviewed four proposals to build the splash pad at the city’s premier Bellevue Park and they are recommending a Sudbury company. To date, the city has raised $394,000 of the estimated $550,000 needed to build the facility.
 

It’s still early in the season – MacDonald

While the winter temperatures seem to be hanging on… city roads continue to receive maintenance. While the city of Sudbury’s says they set to be nearly $2 million over budget when it comes to clearing roads, North Bay has yet to tally final numbers. We spoke to Mayor Al MacDonald who says the season is still young…

The Mayor says that “Safety First” will dictate spending.
 

Rezoning recommended to city staff

A recommendation is being made this week in Greater Sudbury to city council from planning staff. It’s all to approve rezoning applications that would allow an arena and event centre on The Kingsway. In a press release issued last week, the city invited the public to comment on plans to approve the rezoning applications.
