15 when it comes to a fire fighter minimum

The City of Sault Ste. Marie says that they aim at staffing a minimum of 15 firefighters every shift and move towards a three-station operational model. City council passed a resolution yesterday accepting the recommendation to see additional staff manning fire halls. In addition, while the city is currently operating four fire halls across the city, a recently completed comprehensive risk assessment suggests a three-station model would be best for Sault Ste. Marie’s urban area.
 

Missing Dog Found

A missing dog has been found… on an island in the Greater Sudbury area. Greater Sudbury Fire Services say they pulled the pooch from an island on Wahnapitae River yesterday a week after it ran away from its owners. The call came in at around 11:00am, and personnel say the rescue was made by boat.
 

Downtown getting a face-lift

The North Bay downtown is headed for a revitalization of sorts. A little more than $75,000 in provincial funding has come from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. A total of $26 million is being divvied up among 413 municipalities as part of the initiative. There is no word yet as to how the money will be spent.
 

Snow depth right on par

It’s the first day of Spring, and Snow depth low to average in most townships in and around Timmins… are right on par. At least, that’s according to the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority. Generally, snow depth and water content conditions for this time of year are below to slightly above normal through the entire Upper Mattagami Watershed.
 

12 new beds coming to Nipissing

There’s good news for Seniors in Nipissing waiting to move into long term care. 12 new nursing beds have are coming in courtesy of the Ministry of Health earmarked for the Waters Edge Care Community facility. The extra beds turns Waters Edge into a 160-bed facility. The announcement is part of the health ministry’s plan to add 5,000 new nursing beds in Ontario over the next four years.
 

Busted following single vehicle collision

A 67-year old Saint Charles man responsible for a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Wahnapitae has been pegged with impaired driving. The accused was issued a 90-day automatic drivers licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
