Accommodation tax coming for Sudbury

The cost of stopping over on a long trip, could soon be going up.. at least in Greater Sudbury. This is after the city’s finance committee approved a new accommodation tax this week, which will see a levy put on hotel and motel rooms in the city. The new tax on the city’s 2,000 hotel rooms is expected to bring in $1.7 million in 2019, half of which will be used to finance tourism initiatives, with the other half helping to pay the mortgage on the $100 million arena planned for the Kingsway.
