Blue Green Algae in two Sudbury Waterways

Two days after Blue Green Algae was discovered near North Bay, Public Health Sudbury & Districts say they’re looking into two blooms in the Sudbury area. The first is at Amphitheatre Beach on Ramsey Lake. the second, in Lake Nepahwin and the West Arm of Lake Nipissing are positive for blue-green alga. Residents are encouraged to take care.
 

Tax Payers Association calling it quits

In a sudden move, the executive of The North Bay Taxpayers’ Association has made the unanimous decision to terminate and dissolve the organization in its entirety. While the reason for the move is unclear, the group says they’ve worked for the betterment of the community over the past 5 1/2 years. Several members of the association are running for council seats this fall.
 

$15 Min wage still in discussion?

Talk of a $15 minimum wage will be back on the streets of North Bay next week. A campaign, put together by the Nipissing Decent Work Committee, says despite all the pushback they’re asking the New P.C. Government to go ahead with a $15 minimum wage anyway. They say it’s a battle they’ve fought for years, and it helps Ontarians pay bills.
 

57-year-old charged in disturbance, damage done to vehicle

Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service regarding a dispute at a residential complex in the south end of the city, yesterday. Upon arrival, Officers say damage had been done to a parked vehicle. During the investigation, a 57-year-old male and person of interest was identified by Police and taken into custody.
 

No Hot-Dogs, please

Sault Ste. Marie City council has passed a No Hot Pets bylaw. Following the Provinces ongoing concern regarding leaving animals in cars, the new bylaw says that no one may leave an animal unattended inside a vehicle during unsuitable weather, such as a heat wave. Among other things, the bylaw also says animal must have adequate ventilation.
 

Sudbury the safest in the North – Macleans

The city of Sudbury has scored big points when it comes to being a safe community. At least that’s according to numbers from Mcleans Magazine compiled using information from Statistics Canada. Sudbury ranked 115th of 305 communities in terms of overall crime rate. Sudbury’s crime severity index is 64, compared to 353 in North Battleford, SK.

North Bay Police reporting “Quick Change” Scam


North Bay Police are currently investigating three quick change thefts that have occurred at separate business locations in North Bay.
Three businesses in North Bay this week are reporting being victims to a theft done by using a sleight of hand. The female suspect, whose age appears to be in her mid-twenties, asks a clerk to have several one hundred dollar bills changed to smaller bills. After taking the change in twenties she indicates she has changed her mind but does a sleight of hand and only returns a portion of the money.
The three businesses are reporting losses of $300, $180, and $800.
