Shooting in West Nipissing under investigation

Police out of West Nipissing police say they are searching for a 46-year-old man a shooting on the west end of Sturgeon Falls last night. They say that the incident involving at least happened just after 8:00pm in the area of Leblanc Road and Drive In Road. Reports say that The West Nipissing General Hospital was on lockdown until 10:00pm. Highway 17 was closed for some time, in both directions in the area. It has since reopened. And there is no threat to public safety.
 

More than 400-school bus drivers ready to roll

One week ahead of the school year, that the Sudbury Student Services Consortium says it’s in good shape when it comes to driver numbers. They say that while there were shortages last year, leading to delays, this year they have with more than 400 drivers for the upcoming school year which fills all the routes, leaving some to spare.
 

Trudeau making Timmins stop this week

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be heading to Timmins this week. The Timmins-James Bay Federal Liberal Riding Association says the Prime Minister’s Visit will take shape in the form of a barbecue at Mountjoy Historical Conservation Area this coming Wednesday. Other Liberals MPs from Northern Ontario are expected to attend.
 

Sault Ste. Marie Fire blamed on cigarette

A house fire in Sault Ste. Marie is being blamed on the careless disposal of a cigarette. It all took place at an east-end home over the weekend. One male adult was taken to Sault Area Hospital. While the total damage has not been listed, the Ontario Fire Marshal says that activities like smoking should always be done outside, and cigarettes disposed of safely.
 

Sudbury displaces four

A fire in Greater Sudbury has displaced a number of people, from a Huron Street duplex. The blaze forced four people from their homes as personnel from both Main and Long Lake stations responded. Smoke and fire damage have been pegged at around $75,000. The cause of the fire has been blamed on unattended cooking.
 

New stop signs going up in Timmins

A new four-way stop is going up in the city of Timmins. The new signs are slated for the corner of Spruce Street South and Kirby. Currently, the south area intersection is a two-way stop, with east-west traffic on Kirby stopping before crossing Spruce. Timmins council recently approved putting up stop signs on Spruce Street as well, along with no parking areas. The signs are slated to go up next month.
