Fatal boating outing in Greater Sudbury

One man has died in a boating accident. The OPP out of Sudbury/Noelville/Warren says that they responded to the incident on the Nepewassi River, south of Hagar, Markstay-Warren Saturday. The investigation revealed that two men, both in their 20’s had been hunting duck when their canoe capsized. One managed to swim to shore, while the other was located deceased in the water. They were not wearing lifejackets.
 

Missing: 43-year-old Vance Borton


A Northern Ontario man is missing. Greater Sudbury Police says that 43-year-old Vance Borton was last seen in the downtown area six days ago and counting. He is described as 5-8 tall, about 140 lbs. with long brown hair, a thin goatee, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing glasses, a black and red jacket and grey pants.
 

Be bear wise, but don’t panic – MNRF

The MNRF is issuing a reminder to residence. They say they’ve received number of calls, regarding bears with cubs through throughout the northeast region. They say, while it’s good to know where a bear is, there’s often no reason to panic as bears are mostly bulking up for hibernation. They say sow with her cubs is generally not aggressive unless the sow or cubs feel threatened, and for more information residents can call the MNRF.
 

No injuries following a fire

No injuries to residents following a fire. This was in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday in the 100 block of Kohler St. 5 family pets were registered to the home. Three dogs were listed as uninjured, the status of two cats couldn’t be confirmed.
 

Campaigning in its final week

It’s the last week of campaigning… as the municipal election approaches. According to the ballot sheets, in the Mayoral Race alone, there are 11 candidates in Greater Sudbury, 5 in North Bay, 5 in Timmins and 4 in Sault Ste. Marie. Election day is a week from today, October 22nd.
 

PADDLE Program finds a new home

The PADDLE program in North Bay has a new home. Greenwood Baptist Church. PADDLE, which stands for Providing Adults with Developmental Disabilities with Lifelong Experiences serves roughly adults with special needs a variety of opportunities in the classroom and community. They have recently moved out of Chippewa Secondary School, following the announced closing of Widdifield Secondary School.
