Suspect sought in deadly shooting

North Bay police are seeking the whereabouts of at least one suspect in a homicide. It happened last night at around 9:00pm in the Pinewood area. Police believe it was not a random attack and there is no concern for public safety. But, shortly after Police arrival, one man in a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital and shortly after arrival was pronounced dead.
 

Concerns over health care head to QP

Concerns over health care… That’s what’s on the mind of the Sudbury chapter of the Ontario Health Coalition. So much so, they are looking to fill a bus to Queen’s Park where the group says they will be submitting a petition to Premier Doug Ford to bring attention to what they say is a crisis that is mounting in Sudbury’s health care system. Wait times for care is one the issues on the list. The petition will be taken to Queen’s Park on Dec. 10.
 

32-year-old arrested for jewelry theft

Sault Ste. Marie Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman for theft. It is alleged that late last month the accused attempted to pawn some jewelry that had been reported stolen from a break and enter the day before. The value of the jewelry was estimated at just over $12,000. Officers were notified by the staff and the property was recovered.
 

Sudbury will finish 2018 in the red

For the third year in a row, Greater Sudbury is reporting a significant budget deficit. In it’s more than $500 million operating budget, the city reportedly spent $2.4 million more than forecasted for 2018. That follows deficits of $2.45 million in 2017 and $1.8 million in 2016. Two of the biggest contributors winter control and Sudbury Transit.
 

Hills in Timmins, open next weekend

In Timmins, Kamiskotia Snow Resort will open this weekend. It’s the earliest the hill has been opened in more than decade. The hill says that temperatures have been the biggest factor. The hill says that they will be open during weekends until Christmas break before launching into regular hours of operation.
 

Sault Ste Marie Jail up for sale

The old Sault Ste. Marie’s empty jail is up for sale. The surplus property is one of 243 Ontario government surplus properties on the block. It is listed at $99,000. The other properties range from old schools and hospitals to police stations and vacant property. The Government says selling the properties will save taxpayers $9.5 million annually.
