Casino decision this week in North Bay

North Bay city council meets this week and, on the addenda, will be a decision regarding a proposed casino. Two recommendations are on the agenda, including the acceptance of the conditions that were set out in 2012 when the city indicated it would be a willing host to a gaming facility, as well as approval of a standard revenue-sharing agreement with the OLG.
 

Man charged in homicide faces additional charges

A man charged with 2nd degree murder in North Bay is also facing a number of other charges. On Saturday, the 26-year-old charged in last week’s homicide is now charged with two counts of robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, forcible confinement and uttering threats, but London Ontario Police. He is being held pending a court appearance.
 

False alarm for Timmins area fire fighters

It was a false alarm for firefighters from Timmins and Mountjoy who headed out to city’s west end over the weekend. This is after several reports of a large presence of heavy black and grey smoke in the sky. Personnel arrived at a Kamiskotia Road residence where they discovered it was old wood waste and other materials being burned at an industrial site. The owner had a burning permit and met all regulations.
 

$50k raised for Sault Area Hospital in 12-days

The Sault Area Hospital Foundation has raised $50,000 is 12-days. This was thanks to the recent raffle between the 12th – 27th of November to help raise funds for equipment and services. This new draw raised over $50,000. Funds will be used to purchase medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital to increased care to local patience.
 

Have your vehicle insurance handy – Safe ride home Sudbury

It was another successful weekend, by and large for Safe Ride Home Sudbury. Volunteers responded to 229 calls for service over the past weekend. They say however, there is a continued refusal of service when callers were unable to provide valid evidence of insurance for their vehicles. The service runs Fridays and Saturdays until January 1st.
 

63-year old charged in hit and run

A 63-year-old Espanola man is facing charges following the death of a Manitoulin Island man. This is after a 67-year-old man was struck and killed in Wikwemikong earlier this month. While the details of the accident are not available, the driver is charges with Failure to Stop at Scene of Accident Involving Death and Negligence. He will be a Gore Bay court in January.
