Have a save drive home – OPP

OPP in Sudbury are reminding drivers to slow down on the way home. They say since November 1st they’ve responded to 94 collisions. Police are reminding motorists to equip their vehicles with winter tires, plan ahead, leave space between vehicles and allow extra time to reach your destination.
 

Deadly crash closes highway

One person has died following a highway 11 collision. It happened yesterday at approximately 4:46 p.m. north of Englehart. Details are few, except to say that the accident happened when a tractor trailer collided with a cube van. The investigation as to what lead to the crash is ongoing.
 

“No” to back-yard hens – Sudbury Council

It’s a no-go from Sudbury City Council… when it comes to backyard poultry. That is according to a ruling that came down from Sudbury City Council this week, who despite a recent survey indicating that two-thirds of Sudburians would be in favour of allowing residents within the city to own chickens said “no”. Councillors cited a number of concerns, including bylaw enforcement costs, wildlife enticement and waste disposal.
 

Over 1/2 million approved for fire fighting equipment

North Bay fire services have been approved nearly $600,000 in new equipment. It was approved from the city council post election, before the new council was in place. Most of the spending is related to the award of a contract worth approximately $505,000 for the provision of new self-contained breathing equipment for city firefighters.
 

Police looking for missing teen

Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a person. They say 15-year-old Emma McDonald has not been seen since December 3rd. She is described as: a Caucasian female, 5’4 tall, weighing 110 lbs. She has a slim build, long brown straight hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a grey hoodie and brown jacket.
 

Accommodation tax coming to Sault Ste. Marie

A new tax driven to improve tourism is coming for Sault Ste. Marie. The tax means a 4 per cent fee will be applied to stays in places like hotels and motels if the stay is for less than 30 consecutive days. All money will be collected by the accommodation facilities. It is expected that sixty per cent will be used to generate funding to promote tourism within the city.

Fire in Copper Cliff’s “Little Italy” neighborhood

Emergency vehicles could be seen racing to a fire, at a Copper Cliff home. It was called in from the Little Italy section of the community. Reportedly the blaze involved a car fire that spread to the home. Thankfully no one was hurt. The cause is under investigation.
