Police looking to speak to possible witness

Greater Sudbury Police Services are looking for a driver of a red truck, who may have witnessed a major collision. The accident happened near the Hanmer Mall on Jan. 30 just before 9:00am. Full accident details aside, the vehicle in question, pulled out from the mall, turned west, and headed towards St. Mary Boulevard.
 

High-school gym closed due to asbestos scare

A high school gym has been closed down for air quality checks following an asbestos scare. It happened at Chippewa Secondary School, where an encapsulated area of asbestos-containing material was disturbed around the elbow of a pipe in the high ceiling. The school says that at no time was anyone at risk.
 

Council meeting stopped due to power outage

Sault Ste. Marie city council called stopped meeting due to a power outage. One of a number of outages in the city, it struck the Civic Centre shortly before 5:30 p.m. PUC says line crews responded to the cause of the downtown outage, said to have affected more than 2,003 customers at its peak.
 

Strategic plan slated to be released today

HSN and its Research Institute are set to release much-anticipated announcement today. Their 2019-2024 strategic plan. This plan, set to be released this morning is a result of consultation with more than 3,100 patients and their families, staff, physicians, learners. Nickle Belt MPP France Gelinas will be there and says that one of the elements she is hoping for is more.

The announcement is slated to take place this morning at the hospital.
 

Fire damages pegged at $100k

Damages at a North Bay home, following a fire have now been pegged at $100,000. The blaze Friday was at a Bourke Street residence. Thankfully no one was injured. Fire personnel are reminding residents that every family should have a fire plan they can put into motion on a moments notice.
 

Lowes is hiring, nearly 100 position in Sudbury

Despite shuttering 27 stores in coast to coast including 9 in Ontario, Lowe’s Canada is looking to fill more than 6,350 full-time, part-time and seasonal workers this spring. Close to 100 positions in the Sudbury area. To kick off its hiring campaign, the company will hold a National Hiring Day on Feb. 23.

Break and Enter charges laid

Sault Ste Marie OPP have laid charges, following an investigation into break enters and theft. While the full details have not been given, one location given has included an address in the 400 block of Queen Street. Two males ages 18 and 21 will answer to a number of charges.
