HSN issues reminders about when to visit

HSN is Greater Sudbury is once again encouraging residents to choose carefully, from where they get their care. While all emergency issues should be referred to HSN’s ER Department, non-urgent care issues should be handled by walk-in clinics, local pharmacies or Telehealth Ontario. This is after the hospital was pushed to cancel several surgeries last week, due to ongoing overcapacity issues during cold and flu season.
 

Two sledders rescued by Sherp

Two snow-mobilers are safe and sound after a Sunday night rescue. This is after vehicles had become stuck on an unnamed lake five kilometers west of Coniston. A Sherp amphibious multi-role utility was used in the rescue. Both sledders were checked out by paramedics and cleared. This is just the second time they’ve used the Sherp was used for the call.
 

Snow pack creating new records

Record snow depth continue to get measured in the North Bay area. The snow pack depth has increased 38 centimeters since the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority’s last snow survey two weeks ago. That sets new records at all three sites since NBMCA started measuring snow depth in 1987-88.
 

Timmins Square re-opens following gas leak

It’s businesses as usual this morning, after a major gas leak at the Timmins Square. Following a report to Mountjoy and Timmins fire halls over the weekend of a strong gas smell the building was evacuated. It was discovered that on the roof a gas line had broken from the weight of the snow. Repairs are now complete, and the mall has been reopened.
 

28-year-old charged with theft

A 28-year-old Sudbury man faces charges of theft. This is was after he allegedly attended a number of LCBO’s in the area, took a number of products and left without paying. All of the thefts took place in the New Sudbury.
 

Unifor local 103 and ONTC reaches tentative agreement

Unifor Local 103 in North Bay has reached a tentative agreement with the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission. This is after all five Unifor agreements with the ONTC expired on Dec. 31, of last year. Unifor represents more than 350 workers at Ontario Northland.
