HSN will balance the budget for 2019-2020

HSN’s Board of Directors says they will have a balanced budget for 2019-2020. This is HSN’s first balanced budget in three years and marks the elimination of an $11.1 million deficit in 2017-2018.
 

Sudbury house fire suspected to start in the sauna

It was all lights and sirens to a house fire in Greater Sudbury Fire yesterday in Onaping Falls. KFM news spoke to Platoon Chief Andrea Groux who says the fire may have stared in the sauna. The fire caused approximately 250,000.00 in damage and sent one person to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
 

Influenza outbreak at NBRHC

The North Bay Regional Health Centre has declared an influenza A outbreak on in one of their units. Made for the Inpatient Rehabilitation in concert, and in consultation with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit… the hospital says that increased precautionary measures are in place.
 

Stolen sledge being sought

Cochrane District Crime Stoppers is looking for information on a theft. This is after someone drove off with a Child’s snow machine in the Township itself. The machine is a bright yellow Mini-Z Ski-Doo with a large #5 sticker on it.
 

Students walk out of school in protest to education changes

Students walked out of school today from all across Ontario, in protest about the Province’s plan for the education system. In Northern Ontario, thousands of students voted with their feet in the “Students Say No movement” protesting increasing class sizes, teacher cuts and mandatory online courses.
 

Cassells will see major construction starting this spring.

The city of North Bay says reconstructing work on a portion of Cassells Street will once again slow traffic this coming spring. It’s all to improve water, sewer and road infrastructure.  A request for tenders was recently issued for the project, which will see Cassells Street rebuilt between King Street and Highway 11/17. The work is anticipated to start in mid-May and is expected to be completed in the late fall of 2020.
