Porter Airlines return to Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, Timmins delayed

Porter Airlines is delaying a return to service by another month. They say due to ongoing government travel restrictions, the regional air carrier is postponing its previously announced July 29 return date to Aug. 31. Among other cities, the Toronto Island-based airline flies to Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and Timmins.
 

North Bay backing request for $10 billion for municipalities

North Bay city council is lending its favour to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities… in its request to the federal government for $10 billion in emergency funding for communities. Council voted this week unanimously in favouring the motion Tuesday, supporting the federation in its efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
 

Flood warning for Mattagami River terminated, water levels still high

The Timmins Flood Advisory Committee says the Flood Warning for Mattagami River has been terminated. This is as water levels on the Mattagami River continue to drop. That said, the Timmins Flood Advisory Committee reports that the levels of Porcupine Lake and Porcupine River remain high.
 

Sault Ste Marie Bike Patrols are in full swing

Sault Ste Marie Police say their bike patrols are in full swing. City police announced that they will be conducting bicycle patrols during the day on a regular basis, using the Station Mall office as a base adding it’s a good way to connect with the community and manoeuvre into many areas cruisers cannot go.
 

Renovation work continues in Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic

Renovation work continues the North Bay Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic Downtown location. The clinic officially opened the first week of April 2019 but a major downtown fire just before Christmas last year destroying neighbouring buildings caused extensive smoke and water damage to the clinic, forcing it to temporarily close its doors. They are on track to reopen this fall.
 

Timmins fall fair making a comeback… sort of

With the Timmins fall fair having been cancelled this year… the local agricultural society says it will try to incorporate some elements of the fair into its weekly farmers’ market. Mountjoy Farmers’ Market, held at the Participark in the city’s west end, kicks off this Saturday.

Major Roadway getting a $3 million dollar boost

The resurfacing and reconstruction of Trout Lake Road in North Bay is getting a provincial boost. $3,000,000. The funding is part of the Connecting Links program delivered through the Ministry of Transportation and covers up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs.

The city of Timmins hoping to Break Even for 2020

The city of Timmins is looking to break even before the end of 2020. That’s according to the city finance director who offered a report to council this week. The city is projecting a loss in revenue to the end of June is $2.9 million… but the reports indicate, it still has time to catch up, noting however that a second surge of coronavirus infections would change that.
