Public Health Sudbury & Dist. declare 10 more new COVID-19

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting ten new cases of COVID-19. One case in an employee of Pioneer Manor, which following an assessment by Public Health, prompted an outbreak declaration. Six of the 10 cases are in people are under the age of 19. Two of these cases are associated with contact with a travel-related case, one had contact with a case of unknown exposure, and three had unknown exposure.
 

OPP investigate a double fatality

The OPP in the New Liskeard area is investigating a double fatal collision. It involved a bus and two cyclists. It happened yesterday at around 2 pm on Lakeshore Road, in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Technical Traffic Collision Investigators and the Office of the Chief Coroner- Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are assisting with this investigation.
 

Power back on following a significant outage

It took some time, but all power in Timmins has been restored following an outage. According to Hydro One, the lights first went out 5:45 pm Tuesday… and full power wasn’t restored until just before the supper hour yesterday. The company says the reason for the interruption is downed lines. At its peak, the outage affected over 1,200 customers.
 

North Bay Police looking for a missing man: Michael Morrison-Love

North Bay Police are looking for a missing person. 21-year-old Michael Morrison-Love. He was last seen Tuesday in Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park west of Mattawa. Police describe 21-year-old Michael Morrison-Love as five feet 11 inches tall, 134 pounds, with red hair and scruff, carrying a yellow backpack and possibly wearing an orange hoodie.
 

Swimmers – stay out of Point Des Chenes this weekend

Those in the Sault Ste Marie area looking to enjoy the water this weekend… should take note of an advisory. Pointe Des Chenes is now under a swimming advisory due to high levels of bacteria. Algoma Public Health has been taking samples the week. The beach itself, however, remains open.
 

Auction coming at TPS

Timmins Police say unclaimed bicycles will soon be up for grabs, along with other miscellaneous articles. On the 15th of August, they will be holding an auction at headquarters for unclaimed articles. They remind the public if you should see an item that belongs to you, proof of ownership will be required.

240 students working thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs Program

More than 240 students in Sudbury are working at 85 different employers all thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs Program. This summer, temporary changes to CSJ were announced to help both young people and employers who are struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic.  In all, 241 employment opportunities were created in Sudbury, thanks to $1 million in Canada Summer Jobs subsidies this year, up from $880,000 in 2019.
