31 construction projects done, totalling $71 million in Greater Sudbury

Construction continues across much of Greater Sudbury, and as such, some major projects are currently ongoing on some of the city’s main roads. The City of Greater Sudbury has closed 31 capital roads contracts this year, valued at $71 million dollars.
 

Legion Branch 599 will “Give it a go” on Thursday

The West Ferris Legion branch will open its doors to the public Thursday. The first opening since march, Branch 599 Royal Canadian Legion will open on a trial basis. The opening will be for the next four weeks to see if it is financially viable to reopen on a regular basis.
 

Timmins city councillor stepping down

Timmins city councillor, Noella Rinaldo has announced her resignation. Effective Sept. 8 she is becoming the director of community economic development with the TEDC. Because this is a city position, she will be stepping down. In addition to serving on a number of committees, she has served with the BIA and has been on city council for 10 years.
 

Missing man spotted in Blind River

A missing southwestern Ontario man may be in Algoma District. 49-year-old Jad Crawford from Guelph was last seen driving westbound on Highway 17 in Blind River at about 3 p.m. on Monday. He is driving a silver 2014 Kia Forte. His vehicle should not be approached. Anyone with information about Crawford can call Police.
 

Rainbow schools unveil their plan for a “Return to School”

Schools in Sudbury say they will welcome students back to class in less than a month. The Rainbow District School Board laid out their reopening guide during a strategic planning committee meeting. Structure, stability, and safety were highlighted as pillars in the board’s plan with a focus on a cautious approach. Those who choose not to attend in person will be expected to attend school remotely on a full-time basis.
 

Transit slowly expanding service in two cities

North Bay City Council has approved a contract for a pilot project. In a bid to retain and attract new transit users, passengers will have the option to pre-book trips online, by telephone during business hours and/or upon boarding. The project is meant to better allocate resources during off-peak times.
Meanwhile, the Sault Transit could be returning to half-hour service. At least that was the indication for some at last night’s City Council meeting. Brent Lamming, who supervises Sault Transit gave no target date. There are currently around 2,000 daily riders, down from between 6,000 to 7,000 before the pandemic.

Roof Repairs and Renos approved for Greater Sudbury

Greater Sudbury city’s finance committee has approved the spending of over ½ million dollars for the roof replacement for the Sudbury Arena. The Sudbury Community Arena repairs which will come with renovations. The problems with, which have included leaks have persisted for years. The overall costs are expected to be nearly $360,000.
