Downtown Transit Hub reopens this morning in Greater Sudbury

GOVA Transit’s Downtown Hub will is slated to reopen this morning. The building at 9 Elm St. was closed March 20 to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury. Ride cards and passes can be purchased at the Transit Hub kiosk, where modifications have been made to ensure social distancing.
 

36-year-old male faces “hit and run” charges

A 36-year-old man Sudbury man has been charged following a vehicle-pedestrian collision. It happened on August 27th on Regent Street. The driver allegedly stopped before leaving the scene. The 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition.
 

Timmins airport closed for much of next week

The Timmins Victor M. Power Municipal Airport is currently temporary closing. It’s starting next Tuesday and goes until the end of the week. The airport is undergoing some runway and taxiway resurfacing, providing operational longevity and a thicker landing surface to accommodate heavier aircraft.
 

Low barrier shelter in North Bay running well

The new low barrier shelter in North Bay is off to a positive start. Located on Chippewa Street, the facility run by DSSAB, while much smaller than what has been offered at the former low barrier facility at Pete Palangio Arena, staff say the transition is going well. They are now operating 12 hours a day at full capacity.
 

SCA up 20% for this fall

The Sudbury Christian Academy is slated to be off to a strong fall. The private school’s enrolment is up almost 20 per cent thanks to a new building a smaller class size. The school moved over the summer from its old location at Glad Tidings Church into its new home at the former St. Raphael Catholic Elementary School in New Sudbury.
 

Concern over students travelling across the border for school?

The concern is being raised by some on the Algoma District School Board. This was after it was learned that Canadian students are being permitted to cross the International border to continue their studies at Lake Superior State University amid the pandemic. It’s being suggested the move puts Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. at risk by federal officials does not align with the definition of ‘quarantine.
