One new case of COVID-19 announced by Sudbury Health Unit,  also one case announced in Parry Sound

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting a new COVID-19 case in a resident in the service area of Greater Sudbury, Sudbury District, and Manitoulin District. The latest case has been linked to travel, and is currently self-isolating.

Meanwhile,

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting one new case of COVID-19. The new case, is in Parry Sound District and involves a person between 20 and 39 years of age. The person is currently isolating.
 

Sault Ste Marie meeting virtually next week

Sault City council is heading back to virtual meeting status next week. As a result of increasing COVID-19 numbers, council has decided to revert back to virtual meeting in an effort to align with public health recommendations.
 

Guy Lamarche has publicly announced his retirement

In Timmins, one of Ontario’s longest-serving members of the tourism industry, Guy Lamarche has publicly announced his retirement. Lamarche has held several positions over the last 41 years including city’s manager of tourism and events. Lamarche has actually been off from work the past year, after being diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer. He is still undergoing treatment. His retirement is effective today.
 

One sent to hospital due to a two-vehicle collision

And one person has been taken to hospital with minor injuries following a two-vehicle collision in the Sault’s west end Thursday morning. It happened yesterday at the intersection of Second Line West and First Avenue at approximately 10:12 a.m. The incident is under investigation.
 

Vale announces new head of “Mining and Milling”

Vale has a new head of mining and milling for its North Atlantic Operations in Base Metals. Patrick Boit-u-melo has been appointed to the role. Home base for Vale’s North Atlantic Operations is Sudbury where the Brazilian mining giant has five mines, a mill, a smelter, and a refinery, which together employ 4,000 people.
 

Over 2000lbs of food collected in “Fill a Fire Truck” Fund raiser

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services member’s have collected over 2,000 pounds of food in this year’s ‘Fill a Fire Truck with Food’ fundraiser. It happened at the independent grocer. This year’s theme, “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen”.

Rehabilitation of Highway 537 at Jumbo Creek is complete. It took five years and three different political parties to see roadway properly engineered. The road closure forced local residents to endure long detours over a number of years.
