YMCA alerts members of a possible exposure of COVID-19

The North Bay YMCA is alerted its members to a possible COVID-19 exposure. This is after a person who used the facility after hours has tested positive for COVID-19. The email went out yesterday. The Y is working diligently with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, and contact tracing has begun.
 

Porcupine Health Unit announces “false positive”

The latest COVID-19 case reported in Timmins is being removed from the local case count. This is according to the Porcupine Health Unit after an Extendicare staff member without symptoms tested positive. “Upon further investigation, it has been determined that the initial test result is a false positive.
 

Local French public school board announced a tentative deal

The local French public-school board and the union representing its supply teachers have reached a tentative deal. A three-year deal is retroactive to Sept. 1, 2019. The tentative agreement is expected to be ratified before Dec. 16th.
Laurentian University will be extending its winter break by one week. Students returning to class Jan. 11 instead of Jan. 4. The motion was approved by Laurentian’s Senate. This comes as the Ontario government has decided against an extended winter break for elementary and secondary students.
 

Witnesses sought following a fatal collision

Public information is now being sought, following a fatal collision Tuesday in Greater Sudbury. Greater Sudbury Police said officers responded around 6:40 p.m. to a serious multiple-vehicle collision on Municipal Road 35 near Big Nickel Road. When officers arrived on scene they found three vehicles were involved in the collision: a blue SUV, a white pickup and a silver SUV. Two people were pronounced deceased. A third sustained non-life threating injury.
 

Sault Police are looking into a rash of catalytic converter thefts

And Sault Police are looking into a string of thefts… after a number of catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles. They were taken at local dealerships, auto body shops and private driveways in the past few weeks. Police continue to analyze surveillance as the investigation continues.
 

Sally Ann looking for kettle holders

The Salvation Army, is once again looking for kettle holders. The faith-based campaign is says there are needs not only in Greater Sudbury, North Bay, Timmins and Sault Ste Marie… but across that nation. Those who can man a kettle for an hour or two are asked to reach out to their local chapter.
