Proposal to look at republished arena up for discussion

Some on Sudbury city council are proposing a closer look at refurbishing Sudbury Arena rather than building a new one on The Kingsway. The motion is expected at tonight’s meeting. The idea was first presented through the community in June and then presented to council in October.
 

User fees could be going up in Timmins

Timmins user fees could be going up. The city’s bylaw outlining the cost for everything from marriage licenses to building permits and parking fees expires Dec. 31. A five-year renewal of the bylaw is up for discussion at this week’s Timmins council meeting. The clerk’s department is recommending increasing parking fees and fines.
 

The city of North Bay is looking at 4.28% levy

The City of North Bay is proposing a $97.8-million operating budget for 2021. It’s is representing a more than $4-million, or 4.28 per cent, increase over the current year. City staff gave council an initial presentation. The budget is expected to be formally received and referred to committee for upcoming deliberations tonight.
 

OPP investigate double generator theft

Timiskaming OPP is looking into a case of theft. It happened in the town of Elk Lake. The culprits involved in the incident allegedly attended an Ontario Street address and stole two generators. Both are red in colour and have a tubular round frame. They are estimated to be $2500 in value.
 

Three vehicle collision in North Bay involves OPP cruiser

A three-vehicle collision at intersection of Algonquin Avenue and the bypass in North Bas in under investigation. The accident that closed the intersection for a time involved an OPP cruiser. Two were sent to hospital with minor injuries, they have both since been released.
 

$4k grant opens the book for new reading material

A $4,000 grant has now made it possible for some seniors to have more reading material. The money from the District 3 Algoma of Retired Teachers of Ontario is part of an annual project. The books will all be going to the Ontario Finnish Rest Home.
