Public Health Sudbury and Districts has confirmed five new cases of COVID-19

Among the case counts of COVID-19 yesterday into today. Public Health Sudbury and Districts has confirmed five new cases of COVID-19 in the area. Four are in Greater Sudbury and one in the Sudbury District. Meanwhile, Algoma Public Health is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 in the district. Both are linked to international travel. Both individuals are self-isolating.
Meanwhile, the Sudbury health unit has also declared COVID-19 outbreaks in two Greater Sudbury long-term care homes. Outbreaks were declared at Extendicare Falconbridge and Extendicare York following reports of two cases of COVID-19 among staff members, one in each facility.
 

YMCA getting help from City of North Bay

The YMCA in North Bay is getting help from the City. Council voted this week to approve over $173,000 to help offset the financial impacts the pandemic has had on the YMCA. The Y came to council in October requesting assistance.

City of Timmins approves an incremental parking fee increase

Timmins streets and in parking lots are going up. The bylaw department had asked for incremental increases over five years that would have increased the cost of a monthly parking pass to $95.00 from $45.00. Council however approved a $5.00-a-year hike. That will bring it to $70.00 in the fifth year.
 

Sault Ste Marie house fire under investigation

A suspicious fire at a home in the 1100 block of Trunk Road is under investigation. The blaze was reported late Monday night. There is no word as to the total damage done. The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating.
 

Timmins city councilor looking for rent relief

Timmins Councilor Joe Campbell is hoping more organizations and small businesses can get rent relief during the pandemic. Last night he presented a motion to approve financial help for tenants of city facilities. They include the Schumacher Lions Club, who rent the Lions Den at the McIntyre Community Building; and the Shriners, who rent space at the Whitney Arena.
 

Charges laid in North Bay Cold-Case

A 62-year-old North Bay man is facing murder charges in connection to the death of Micheline St. Amour of East Ferris. It happened in the summer of 1980. The 62-year-old male appeared in court on November 19 and is remanded into custody until a bail hearing can be scheduled.
