Students -in Northern Ontario- back to school on January 11th

COVID cases rising across the province, including the north, the province has extended the lockdown in northern Ontario for another two weeks. That said, kids here in Northern Ontario are going back to school on Monday. The hope from the Province is that if Northern Ontario says in lockdown, schools will be able to reopen safely.
 

6 new cases of COVID-19 registered by the APH

Among record breaking COVID-19 numbers across the Province yesterday, Algoma Public Health reported six new cases of the Corona virus. All from Sault Ste. Marie and area. Five are from close contact, while one is from an unknown contact.
 

Sudbury man facing multiple fraud charges

Charges have been laid against a Sudbury man who allegedly posed as a representative of a landscaping company. Details aside, he’s charged with defraud a number of local homeowners. The 37-year-old is facing six counts of fraud under $5,000.
 

Fire fighters in North Bay respond to shed fire

North Bay Fire crews were called on the scene of a shed fire yesterday afternoon. The call came in just before 2 in the one-hundred block of Oakwood Ave. The shed was detached from the house. No injuries are reported.
 

Two are facing break-and-enter charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man and a youth following an break and enter incident at a strip mall in the city. Officers say the two allegedly broke into a retail store doing roughly $600 damage and taken just under $200 worth of merchandise. The responding Timmins Police officers followed the foot prints left by the suspects to a hidden location underneath the Mattagami River bridge.
 

Threats against some city councilors leads to investigation

Threats following a Sudbury city council meeting has led to a police investigation. This is following the Dec. 21st meeting of last year where was a motion tabled calling for a wage freeze at city hall in 2021. It was rejected by city council by a vote of 9 to 4. Some of the city councilors who voted against then received threatening messages.

Sault Are Hospital is once again restricting visitors

Starting today the Sault Area Hospital is once again tightening restrictions on visitors. It’s all due to rising cases of COVID-19. Designated visitors will only be allowed for laboring mothers, pediatric patients, patients undergoing urgent surgery, long-stay patients with identified support, or patients who are at end-of-life. Visitors will be screened for symptoms and recent exposures.
