COVID-19 in the North East into the weekend

New cases
A Sault Ste. Marie and area resident tested positive for COVID-19. The individual caught the virus from close contact and is self-isolating.
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting one new case of COVID-19. The case is in the Nipissing District. That said, with one more case resolved, there are eight active in the region, all in the Nipissing District.
Three new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Timmins. According to the Porcupine Health Unit, all of the people are contacts of a case and in self-isolation.

Deaths
This week, Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting another COVID-19 related death. It is the Greater Sudbury area. This is the 16th COVID-19 related death in the Health Unit’s area. No further details will be provided.

Colour Coded Reopening
The Timiskaming Health Unit region is moving to the red level of COVID-19 restrictions. The change is in effect as of today. It’s all due to concerning trends in the region, according to the medical officer of health. Last week, Timiskaming moved from the orange level of restrictions to the less restrictive yellow level.
The North Bay Parry Sound district will remain in the yellow-control zone of the province’s COVID-19 framework.

Remote Learning
Remote learning for Rainbow District Schools will continue until further notice. That comes from a letter received by Public Health Sudbury and Districts addressed to the board, as relayed in a statement this week by director of Education Norm Blaseg. The Health Unit will advise when face-to-face instruction can resume.
