COVID-19 Outbreak Expanded

Public health Sudbury and Districts has expanded a COVID-19 outbreak originally declared at the Salvation Army Cedar Place shelter and the YMCA Warming Centre, it now includes the Samaritan Centre Resource Program on Elgin and the Homelessness Network Day Centre on Larch. It is for March 23-27. Anyone who attended these facilities is urged to carefully self-monitor for signs and arrange a COVID-19 test.
 

Thousands without power in Sturgeon Falls (Update: Restored)

A number of people in Sturgeon Falls had their power knocked out yesterday, due to high winds. At last update yesterday just over 1400 customers were still without power as crews worked to restore a feeder line. There were no reported injuries.
 

No injuries following two fires in Greater Sudbury

Fire Crews responded to a fire in the northern part of Greater Sudbury yesterday. It was at a residence in the Skead area. The call came in at around 8pm. Foul play is not suspected and there were no reported injuries. There is no word on the cause nor damages.
Meanwhile,
10 people have been displaced, following an electrical fire in Capreol. It happened at a residential complex yesterday. The call came in at around 3:30pm. While the fire was contained, it is a multi-unit building and hydro was affected. coming into that entire complex, all those individuals had to be displaced, because there was no heat or hot water.”
 

Vaccine appointments expand in North Bay area

COVID-19 vaccine appointments now available North Bay, Britt and Sundridge for adults born in 1946 and before. A limited number of appointments are now available for those aged 75 to 79. Individuals can book their appointment either online through the provincial booking system or by phone by calling the health unit.
 

One tests positive for COVID-19, three for a possible VOC

One more Algoma District resident has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is from the Sault Ste. Marie area.
Meanwhile, three confirmed cases of COVID-19 cases in Timmins are screening as potential variants of concern. The health unit expects that the cases are a United Kingdom variant.
 

Four new guards coming to North Bay Jail

Four additional correctional officers are looking to be hire in North Bay. It’s for the correctional facility on Trout Lake Road. Providing all four pass their testing, they’re join the staff before Summer. The eight-week training program has taken place both virtually and in-person.
