COVID-19 Outbreaks declared at St. Joseph’s Villa and Health Science North

Public Health Sudbury & Districts has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at St. Joseph’s Villa in Greater Sudbury. It affects the Hillcrest Wing of the facility. Thus far, the outbreak is contained and there is no evidence of ongoing transmission.
In addition, a new COVID-19 outbreak has occurred at Health Sciences North. It affects the Sixth Floor, North Tower. It is the fourth distinct outbreak at HSN in the past month. It involves two staff members.
 

New COVID-19 cases in Multiple Health Unit areas

Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported 21 new cases of COVID- 19 for Monday April 5. While the North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit, reports five new cases over the Easter weekend. There were no new cases yesterday.
Three new COVID-19 cases are being reported in Timmins. They were announced yesterday by the Porcupine Health Unit. All of the people are the contact of a case and in self-isolation, according to the Porcupine Health Unit.
The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is advising that one confirmed case previously reported in Timmins has screened positive for a variant of concern. The individual involved is linked to the outbreak at the Extendicare Long-Term Care Home in Timmins and is currently in self-isolation.
The health unit also reported a total of six more Sault Ste. Marie and area residents testing positive for COVID-19 on Saturday and Sunday.  The Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre says four caught the coronavirus from close contact. It’s not known how the other became ill.
 

Two classes self isolating at St. Mary’s College

Two classes at St. Mary’s College in Sault Ste Marie are being instructed to isolate until April 15. This is after an individual associated with the classes tested positive for COVID-19. That person, not identified as a teacher, school worker or student, was a close contact of another person who also tested positive for coronavirus.
The date of concern is April 1.
 

Potential COVID-19 exposure risk linked to flight

The Porcupine Health Unit has announced a potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 was announced. It was for any passengers on a flight from Toronto to Timmins Thursday evening. The flight was Air Canada, flight AC8289, which was scheduled to depart at 6:55 p.m. from Toronto to Timmins. The advisory is particularly directed to those who were seated in rows 1 to 4. The passengers in these rows are directed to self-isolate and call their local public health unit. Other travellers on this flight are directed to self-monitor.
 

Missing: 38-year-old Jessica Faries

Greater Sudbury Police is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing woman. 38-year-old Jessica Faries. Faries is described as standing 5-7 and weighing 150 lbs, with short brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black jacket and black running shoes in the Louis Street area of Sudbury. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 705-675-9171.
