Public Health Sudbury and Districts report 1 new death

Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported one new COVID-19 related death on May 2.
This is the region’s 28th death associated with the pandemic and the first death since April 28. Public Health Sudbury also reported 14 new cases in the region over the weekend. There were also 14 resolved cases.
 

Algoma Public Health report 4-new cases

There were four more Algoma District residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
Two are from the Sault. One is from North Algoma and another from Elliot Lake and area, Algoma Public Health says. Of the four it’s believed three caught the coronavirus from close contact.
 

Porcupine Health Unit report 11-new cases, and an outbreak

Eleven new COVID-19 cases and an outbreak are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit. All of the new cases are in Timmins. Five people are the contacts of a case, four are related to an outbreak and two are related to an institutional outbreak. All of the people are in self-isolation, according to the health unit. The outbreak is at the YMCA. So far, four people at the site are confirmed cases. The health unit investigation has determined the cases are linked to the workplace.
 

Fire totals building in Sault Ste Marie

Both Sault Ste Marie Fire and Police responded to the scene of a structure fire on Apex Log Homes at 1390 Goulais Ave. It happened Saturday. The damages are believed to be total. There is no word yet as to the cause.
 

Mental Health Week goes virtual

Partnership Programs with the Canadian Mental Health Association in Nipissing are preparing for virtual events to recognize Mental Health Week this week. It goes between now and Sunday. Launched in 1951 by the CMHA, the annual awareness campaign encourages people to learn and talk about issues relating to mental health.
 

Algoma U expected to hire more staff, improve learning spaces

Algoma University is slated to hire more staff, bump up student support, and upgrade classroom spaces this coming year. The post-secondary institution’s balanced $58.7-million 2021-2022 budget, was passed by the board of governors last Thursday. Five new full-time faculty members are expected in the fall, and five administrative staff.

Timmins Police looking for missing teen: Logan Boissonneault

The Timmins Police Service is looking for a missing teen. 13-year-old Logan Boissonneault was last seen on May 2 at 2 pm. He is described as a Caucasian male, 5’4 tall with a medium build. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black zoo York pants, a rainbow camo-coloured sweater and light grey running shoes.
