PHU gives the go-ahead for those 50-years+ to be vaccinated

Public Health Sudbury and Districts says those who are 50 years of age and older in this calendar year, can call to book an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. As of right now, phoned-in appointments are being booked. As of Thursday, May 6, online booking for those who are 50 years and older this year will be possible using the provincial online booking system.
This is as another outbreak has been declared at Health Sciences North. It’s in the Ramsey Lake Health Centre’s south tower on the 6th floor.
 

43% of NBPS residents now vaccinated

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit says 43 percent of the over 18 population has now received their first shot of the COVID-19 Vaccine. There were also two new cases today, both in the Parry Sound area, and three recoveries in the Nipissing area.
 

5 news cases of COVID-19 announced Timmins

The Porcupine Health Unit added seven new COVID-19 cases yesterday. Five of the new cases are in Timmins, and of those, three are related to an outbreak.

The Timiskaming Health Unit is confirming one new positive case of COVID-19. It’s due to close contact with a confirmed case. Five which were marked resolved today.
 

OBE gives to go-ahead for PUC to build Smart Grid

The Ontario Energy Board has given the go-ahead for PUC Distribution the approval to build a $34 million Sault Smart Grid Project. This project is the first of its kind in Canada and will not only help customers save on their monthly bill but will also help the utility better prepare for emergencies such as blackouts.
 

Launch date of MS Chi-Cheemaun pushed back

COVID-19 concerns have pushed back the start of the 2021 season for the MS Chi-Cheemaun. The ferry, operating in Georgian Bay in the upper end of Lake Huron, the vessel runs from May to October between South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island and Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula. Quebec-based company Martin Roy Transport is expanding into North Bay. The $30-million expansion will include building a new terminal. It will be one of six new terminals being built in Ontario, with stations going up in Toronto, Sudbury, Timmins, Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.

PHU sounding the alarm over COVID-19 cases

The medical officer of health for the Porcupine Health Unit says is sounding the alarm bells when it comes to COVID-19 case numbers. Of the 646 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, Almost half are from the virus’s third wave. As of yesterday the health unit is at 93.5 cases per hundred-thousand.
Meanwhile, seven new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Porcupine Health Unit yesterday. Five of the new cases are in Timmins, three are related to an outbreak.

Rainfall issued by Conservation Sudbury

Conservation Sudbury has put out a water safety statement. Rainfall in recent days is expected to have accumulated to 30-50 mm, with localized amounts of over 50 mm still possible. While water levels and flows are within the normal summer range in all Greater Sudbury watersheds, if the forecast amount of rain is received, water levels will rise quickly and flooding may occur in low-lying areas.
