Rainbow board seeking input on a new director

Rainbow District School Board is seeking input to develop a candidate profile for its next director of education. It’s being done through a third party. The current director of education Norm Blaseg announced last month he is retiring from the board as of Aug. 31 of this year. Challenges/priorities/opportunities for the Board and its incoming Director are being considered. Responses are being taken up and until tomorrow May 28.
 

OPP looking for a missing boater

OPP is looking for a potential missing boater. This is after an unmanned vessel was found on Lake Nipissing yesterday at around 1:40 pm. At this time a missing person investigation is ongoing in the Lavinge area of West Nipissing and a strong police presence during the search for the missing operator on the water and along the shorelines is expected.
 

Traffic enforcement in Porcupine this week

Timmins Police is upping its traffic enforcement in Porcupine. This is after a number of complaints from residents in the area of Florence Street, Division and Remembrance over drivers not stopping at intersections. Police are enhancing patrols in the area and drivers can consider themselves warned.
 

Greater Sudbury producing a surplus following the winter season

Sudbury city council has written of just over $3 million in unpaid fines. All of them parking and Provincial Offences Act fines, it was done during this week’s city council meeting. The fines were from the 2010 – 2014 time frame and deemed uncollectable. The Provincial Offences included, but weren’t limited to driving offences, trespassing, liquor licence and by-laws such as noise and animal control.
 

Timmins TD reopening this morning, following cleaning

The TD branch in Timmins is closed but will reopen this morning at around 10am following a deep cleaning. Two cases of COVID-19 in staff members have forced TD Canada Trust to temporarily close its only branch in Timmins. The bank does encourage clients to bank digitally or on ATMs.
 

Sault neighbourhood traffic shut down for investigation

Sault Police are on the scene of a traffic investigation. It’s at the corner of second-line and Farwell. As a result, second line west has been shut down between Farwell and Cora well into the morning. No further information has been released but detours are in place.

Two North Bay residents facing drug charges

North Bay Police have kicked another dent into the drug community. This is after a 34-year-old female and 39-year-old male were arrested in their home yesterday during the execution of a search warrant by officers. A wide variety of suspected narcotics and a weapon has been taken off the street.
 

$2 million going to support at-risk Sault Youth

Two Sault Ste Marie organizations are sharing a $2 million dollars aimed at providing job skills training for at-risk youth. The goal is to keep programs active for the next several years. Sault Ste. Marie MP Terry Sheehan announced Wednesday that the Sault Community Career and Information Centre and the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA will receive funding from the Ministry of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion to continue with its programming.
