HSN and Police team up for mental health

Health Sciences North has unveiled new plans for the city’s new mobile crisis rapid response team, to work in partnership with frontline e police officers. To goal is to provide more help for those in emergency crisis situations. This will allow a pair of trained crisis workers to be able to respond with the police when needed.
 

LU planning for face-to-face classes this fall

Laurentian University is planning for a return to face-to-face classes in the fall. A detailed plan is expected from the school today. They have indicated they will be following best public health advice, and that Health and safety come first for everyone at Laurentian.
 

Legion giving an extension to find a new location

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 in North Bay is being given another extension when it comes to finding new digs. The provincial command has given the branch until the end of September. It’s been more than a year since the branch moved out of the building on First Avenue West, but with the pandemic, it’s been hard to see any new locations.
 

Rezoning of townhouses on second line in Sault Ste Marie given the go-ahead

The rezoning application of five townhouses in Sault Ste Marie has been given the go-ahead by city council. Created at the former Brookfield Market property on Second Line the application, although heavily opposed, according to the city, was well within good planning policy guidelines.
 

Hydro one employee dies after being struck by a vehicle

A Hydro One employee has died in the Driftwood area. This is after being struck by a vehicle. Little further information is being shared about the incident. Hydro One shared in a Facebook post yesterday that thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues and that they are doing everything possible to we can to support those affected.
 

4 new fires in the North East

There were forest fires have flared up in the Northeast region. Both 0.1 of a hectare, neither under control, Timmins 4 is located north of Biscotasi Lake Provincial Park. Timmins 5 is located south of Lower Forks Lake.

North Bay city council considering voting options

North Bay city council is being asked to consider a combination of traditional paper voting and electronic voting for the Oct. 24, 2022, municipal and school board elections. Council members were told this week, there are four possible options The traditional paper ballot, electronic or online voting, vote-by-mail or a hybrid method that includes electronic voting and vote-by-mail. Sudbury and Thunder Bay have both indicated they will use the hybrid method for the coming election. Timmins has not yet decided.
 

New parking system coming to Sault Area Hospital

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is getting a new parking system. Set to go in next week, it will feature more parking pass options as well as credit/debit tap payment options. The hospital has said there will be no rate increases at this time. SAH’s current rate of $6.00 per exit remains unchanged.
