Youth airlifted to Hospital following a two-vehicle collision

A youth has been taken to a Toronto hospital by Air Ornge and six others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday on Manitoulin Island. Two drivers on Highway 540 collided in the Town of Kagawong. Five people from one vehicle and two occupants from the second vehicle were transported to a local hospital in Mindemoya. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
 

Survey underway on Minnow Lake

An assessment of fish and other species is being done on Minnow Lake. The hope is to determine what changes might have taken place after a study was done almost 25 years ago. The study will repeat the one done in 1998 study by the Cooperative Freshwater Ecology Unit of Laurentian University.
 

Flood watch in effect for the North Bay District

A flood watch is now in effect for the North Bay District. Put into place by the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, the statement comes following a heavy downpour Saturday that the ministry says brought more than 100 millimeters – approximately double the forecasted rainfall – from the Tilden Lake area to the southern reaches of the North Bay District. It will remain in place until August 3rd.
 

Talks continue between Vale and Steelworkers 6500

Talks underway last week between Vale and Steelworkers Local 6500… are continuing. There was hope they would lead to the end of the labour dispute at the mining company’s Sudbury operations, but went through the weekend and continued Monday. 2,500 production and maintenance workers hit the picket lines June 1st.
 

Fank’s Hotsauce issues RECALL

A voluntary recall has been issued by Frank’s. It’s for the RedHot Buffalo Ranch Seasoning over a possible Salmonella contamination. McCormick & Company, Inc. says the recall covers 153g bottles with a best before date of September 6, 2022. The bottles were shipped to British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. Thus far, no illnesses have been reported, and potential risk came from the FDA during routine testing.
 

Sault College announces mandatory COVID-19 vaccines

Sault College has announced that anyone living or working in its student residence will have to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 20 of this year. The news broke in a release issued by the college this week. The college says also announced that team staff, students, and coaches within the varsity athletics program are also required to get vaccinated by the September date.
