Cambrian College and Collège Boréal will not require a COVID-19 shot

Cambrian College and Collège Boréal, say while they’re encouraging vaccinations against COVID-19, but won’t require people to get one to enter or live on campus. This is as other schools in Ontario trend in the other direction; Sault College is requiring anyone living or working in its student residences to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 20.
 

SSMADC receiving over $2 million in federal funding

The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation is receiving COVID-19 relief funding. $2.15 million dollars from the federal government. MP Terry Sheehan announced the money yesterday, for the duration of one year. The relief funding is non-repayable.
 

Timmins continues to host wild fire evacuees

The city of Timmins continues to host evacuees from Pikangikum first nation. This is as Wildfires continue to wreak havoc in northwestern Ontario. There are currently 166 active fires in various stages of control in the region as of yesterday. City reminds motorists there will be increased foot traffic in Timmins’ west end.
 

80% vaccinated in the Sudbury Manitoulin Health Unit area

Public health officials marked a milestone yesterday, with 80 per cent of eligible individuals in Sudbury and districts having at least their first dose of the vaccine. The Health Unit said in a statement on social media, a major accomplishment, and reason to celebrate reflecting on how far the region on come.
 

10 treated, sent to hospital following 4-vehicle crash

Sault Fire and EMS responded to a motor vehicle collision involving multiple vehicles yesterday, on Great Northern Road. The call came in from the 2600 block 10 people were taken to the hospital needing various levels of care. During the investigation, officers determined four vehicles were involved in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
 

Federal Government providing $50,000 to victim services in Nipissing

The Federal Government is providing nearly $50,000 to Victims Services of Nipissing District. MP Anthony Rota, made announced the money this week indicating that domestic issues have intensified as a result of the pandemic.

Two new fires in the North East

A pair of new forest fires have been confirmed in the northeast. Sault Ste. Marie 14, located north of Iron Bridge, is currently under control at 0.1 of a hectare while Cochrane 27, located east of Peawanuck in the northern portion of the province, is currently being observed at 0.2 of a hectare.
