I can still remember how it felt to look into the eyes of my very first newborn child. With tears streaming down our faces my husband and I were in awe of the miracle that was delivered to us. I hardly wanted to put him down. I had never experienced instantly falling in love with someone I had just met. I remember letting my close friends and family hold him for short periods of time and it wasn’t long before I wanted to scoop him up into my arms again, feel his skin against mine and breathe in that newborn smell. I just couldn’t get enough. My newborn and I were pretty much stuck together, especially right after he was born. I constantly examined fingers and toes and was forever amazed at every sound and gurgle he made. He was the most beautiful precious gift I had ever laid eyes on and no one could convince me otherwise!

I have learned that our heavenly Father feels the same about us, his precious children, in fact, even though it is hard to believe, He loves us and our children even more than we do. He thought of us, dreamed of us, formed us, even knew our name before we were born. Psalm 139:13-14 says “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”  He created us to have an intimate relationship with him and there are some beautiful parallels between the relationship of a mother and child and our Heavenly Father and us, his beloved children.

When a baby is born they are only able to see a distance of 8-12 inches, the perfect distance for gazing into the eyes of Mom or Dad as they are held in their arms.  God desires for us to be that close to him that we would keep our eyes fixed upon him alone!

God has created Moms to feed their babies their own milk which contains all the nutrients they need to grow and develop along with antibodies to help protect and help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria. As we are fed by our heavenly father, we come to see him as the one who is truly ALL we need. we are nourished spiritually and protected and equipped in everyway.

Most of the first sounds our babies hear and are comforted by, are the sounds of Mom and Dads voice and the sound of Moms heart beating, heard first in the womb. After a child is born, a mother’s comforting voice singing, or hearing Dad’s reassuring voice, brings a sense of peace and calm and a knowing that they are loved and safe. Our Father too, sings over us and speaks to us. How intimate that the God of this universe can speak words of hope and love, that with only a whisper, he can calm every storm.

Mom’s, I want to encourage you today that you will never be to old to crawl up into the lap of our heavenly Father. There is a place saved just for you! And when we still ourselves and settle into his arms, you will be fed and nourished and refreshed by him, and as we look into his eyes, we will ALWAYS see his eyes looking back at us His beloved children.

How beautiful to be called a child of God.
