”Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.” John 2:17
This is directly after Jesus clears the temple in Jerusalem of money changes. He’s come into the temple to find this sacred space so full of business that people can’t meet with God. There’s no room (vs. 13-14). It would be like showing up for church or a bible study to find a busy sidewalk sale going on inside. Jesus is having none of it, and he single-handily empties the place (vs. 15). And it’s because of his zeal for God’s house that he does it (vs 17). When we feel like God doesn’t care about whether we meet with him or not, let’s remember that He takes to task, both distraction and deceit in order for us to have a place and space to meet with Him.
