Sudbury Mayor’s State of Address will be held virtually

Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger’s State of the City Address will now be held virtually. Hosted by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, it was originally slated to be held at the Caruso Club. It will go today from 12-1 p.m. Bigger is expected to “speak on the future of the city, and upcoming projects. For more information or tickets, residents can go do sudburychamber.ca.
Despite the event now being limited to a live stream, tickets to the event are $25 for members and $45 for non-members.
 

North Bay Patrol Officers set to have body cams in the Spring

North Bay Patrol officers are expected to be equipped with body cameras by the spring. North Bay Police Chief Scott Tod released a statement yesterday. The cameras will capture real-time evidence, provide officer interaction with the public, and provides further evidence while they’re speaking with officers, especially when it comes to public complaints.
 

Water Safety Advisory is over – TFAC

The water safety advisory for Porcupine Lake is over. The Timmins Flood Advisory Committee issued the warning as rain elevated the water levels on Porcupine Lake and Porcupine River causing the lake to spill over onto the boardwalk downtown South Porcupine.
 

Mail-in ballots in Sault Ste Marie to be counted today

While Monday night’s election tally in Sault Ste. Marie failed to produce any clear winner, that may all change today. Mail-in ballots are expected to be counted with the hopes to have a winner may be declared by the end day. Otherwise, voters could have to wait until next week so that a recount can occur.
With 180 of 184 polls reporting, unofficial results give Sheehan the slightest of edges with 14,312 votes, just 41 votes ahead of Spina.
 

PHSD announces a COVID-19 outbreak

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has one new COVID-19 outbreak. It’s for the Canadian Mental Health Association – Victoria Street Place. No further information is being released. The details were outlined on the PHSD website.
 

Timmins Police seeking missing teen: Caleb Veilleux

Timmins Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating a missing teen. Caleb Veilleux is 15 years old.
He is described as:
• A Caucasian male
• 5’3 tall
• 110lbs
• Red/brown straight hair
• Brown eyes
Caleb Veilleux was last seen by family on Sept. 21, 2021, at 7:30 a.m., wearing a black jacket, grey hoodie, dark-colored sweatpants, a white baseball cap, white shoes with red soles, and a black backpack.
 

Flooding is possible for North Bay and area

The MNRF says potential flooding is possible for North Bay and area, based on weather forecasts. Significant rainfall has been falling since yesterday evening and when combined with high and fast-moving water, the MNRF says these conditions pose a hazard.
