James Bay OPP looking into vehicle, ATV theft

James Bay OPP are looking into the theft of several vehicles and other items. The call came in from Moonbeam township. Missing is a pickup truck, an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), a utility trailer. The truck is described as a white 2014 Ford 150. The ATV is a red 2014 Arctic Cat bearing marker 0BK81.
 

Great Lakes decline in levels

Those who measure Great Lakes are showing a decline in water levels. At least, that’s the case for Lake Superior and Lake Michigan-Huron. Its said to be the result of drier than average weather and water supply conditions, Lake Superior water levels have declined below the seasonal long-term average for the first time since April 2014.
 

Place des Arts expected to open next year

Sudbury’s Place des Arts is expected to open next year. Evidently, construction on the downtown arts centre, which will host seven francophone organizations, is almost complete. The centre was supposed to open in December 2020, but that timeline was pushed back due to delays caused by the pandemic.
 

Affordable Seniors Housing discussion goes online

The affordable senior housing committee in Mattawa is inviting residents to have their say. A meeting is slated for today at 4:00 p.m. Public attendance is not allowed, the meeting itself will be held by video and phone, but citizens are welcome to access the meeting. The hope is to discuss the completion of the Mattawa seniors affordable housing complex at the former Algonquin Nursing Home, at 231 Tenth Street.
 

Highway 11 south reopens following a fatal crash

Highway 11 south of Englehart has reopened after a fatal crash. It happened earlier yesterday. Temiskaming OPP confirmed that one person has died in the collision, which occurred south of Englehart. Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding the collision.
 

Greater Sudbury trying to help homeowners

The city of Greater Sudbury is hoping residents can think “efficiency” when it comes to their own homes. To that end, they’re hosting an online workshop today. The workshop, called “Helping Homeowners Benefit” from Home Energy Efficiency, is being held on the Zoom platform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This session is the first step in the city’s home retrofit financing model study, for which they received $170,000 from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
 

Mattawa looking for volunteer firefighters

The city of Mattawa is searching for volunteer firefighters. The hope is to find those “committed to safely train to while linking up with protection efforts.” The training is “all on-site,” and follows the training exercises as laid out in the curriculum from the Fire College.
 

Ford in Timmins – Reaffirms Pirie as PCC candidate

Premier Doug Ford flaked by cabinet ministers was in Timmins yesterday, at the TDHA. His visit surrounded looking for a solution for polysubtance and alcohol-related issues. The Premier was on hand to confirm that Mayor George Pirie will be the PC candidate in the June 2022 provincial election.
